Romance
Ahh, romance. That ever difficult topic which always causes arguments no matter what fandoms you follow.
People always have their own opinions on who's right for who and why, and there is never a set answer until
a pairing is made official. Maxi does not yet have an official romantic partner, although I find it likely
he will get one eventually, so everything I write here is based on my own opinions, m'kay? I have examined
the pairings I look at here very carefully. ^^ I've been doing a bit of research across the world of
fanfiction, and so far have found the following fan-pairings: -
The most common one I find in English sites is MaxixXianghua, perhaps unsurprisingly, but in Japanese websites MaxixKilik is very common and maybe even a staple of the Japanese fandom (I've guessed this from fanart I've seen - I only wish I could read Japanese). Personally, while both of those pairings are very cute and I like them both, I'd go for MaxixSetsuka as the most likely one to actually happen in the official storyline (now I've said that I'll probably be proved wrong later! XD). Anyway, let's look at all of those fan-pairings individually...
MaxixXianghua
Yes, it could work. They're already friends, so why not? They obviously get on very well. Of course, Xianghua's interest in Kilik is very blatant, but that could always just be a crush. Maxi and Xianghua is a very cute couple, and I do like. No, I don't think it will happen in the official storyline (inevitably, KilikxXianghua will be the result), but it is a possible.
MaxixKilik
This is probably the most blatant shounen-ai couple that could be drawn from the game (which explains its Japanese popularity), but you'd be surprised at how little it is done compared to the various Siegfried shounen-ai stories out there in the English-language fandom. Anyway, I like it a whole lot. I love their friendship and a romance between the two is not too far-fetched.
MaxixSeungMiNa
This is a difficult one. Hwang loves Seung MiNa (probably) and hates Maxi, so the amount of arguments this relationship would cause is unthinkable. MiNa's father would certainly not approve of any man that Hwang hates. MiNa is not one who avoids an opportunity for rebellion, though, so she might go for a relationship with Maxi in spite of all this. I think Maxi would appreciate her sense of humour too.
MaxixSetsuka
Like I've said, Maxi and Setsuka is the pairing I consider most likely to happen officially (although its place as my personal favourite might be influencing me here). I've covered it in a more detailed manner right here. It would definitely work!
MaxixCassandra
An unusual one this. I would never expect it to work, actually. Cassandra strikes me as a very bossy character, and I don't think Maxi would like that very much. However, the fan-fiction I saw it in carried them off as a couple very well whilst keeping both very much in character, which has changed my opinion to a certain degree. I still dont't think they'd make the perfect couple, but maybe it could work. Maybe.
