Facts and Observations
In this bunch of random facts and observations about Maxi, where to start? Ah, yes...
Amongst many, Maxi is seen as 'the guy who looks like Elvis.' Some even think he was modelled on him. Maxi was actually
based on Bruce Lee, the famous actor who made the Nunchaku a popular weapon in modern society. So there you go. Now,
while I respect your opinion on the matter, I don't think Maxi looks like Elvis at all. No, black hair and white
clothes isn't enough, thanks. Not that I have anything against Elvis, it's just... no. ^^;
Apparently, Xianghua mistook Maxi for Li Long when she first met him. Huh? Now, Xianghua knew Li Long because she is
best friends with his sister. I would have thought she should be able to tell the difference between the two!
Maxi is one of those characters who isn't paired up with anybody on a frequent basis (in the English fandom at least;
from what I can tell, Maxi/Kilik is VERY popular in the Japanese fandom). I have seen him paired with Kilik and Xianghua
(the obvious two), Lynette (yup, the shop girl), Cassandra, Setsuka (yay!), Seung Mi-Na, Raphael (...eh? This one confuses
me greatly) and Taki. But not one more frequently than others.
You know Maxi was a pirate; pirates were not, despite their modern image, nice people (for the most part). But Maxi
has a clear 'good' alignment and the little I know about his sworn brother, Kyam, suggests he was also a pretty
good guy. So what does this mean? Was Maxi more a 'Robin Hood' character? A 'steal from the rich and keep it, but be
nice to poor people' sort? He certainly fits the 'gentleman pirate' image very well, doesn't he? I guess we'll never
know. He DID attack Hwang's ship, but Hwang was trying to entrap him and his crew...
Maxi is a vengeful guy, right? Hmmm.... but he must be aware that Kilik was, in part, responsible for the death of his
crew even if he didn't do anything directly or delibrately. Guess Maxi must be a pretty understanding guy as well as a
vengeful one...
