Endings

Maxi had actually died in two of his endings - his ending for Soul Calibur 1, and the 'bad' ending in Soul Calibur 3. Soul Calibur 2 was the only game in which he caught a break! ^^;

Soul Calibur 1

This ending actually lead to many people thinking that Maxi really was killed in the official storyline! Maxi defeats Inferno alone, but the effort causes him grave injuries and he dies in Kilik's arms. Kilik and Xianghua then throw his nunchaku into the ocean. Sad, right? Fortunately, this is not what happens in the official storyline (see Maxi's SC2 biography).

Soul Calibur 2

Pretty simple ending this. Maxi defeats Inferno and destroys Soul Edge, causing him to remember Kilik and Xianghua. He visits the grave of his dead crew, before going to find his friends and share a happy future with them. You already know this doesn't really happen!

Woohoo! No more endings based on drawings, we get a proper action ending! Anyway, there are two endings here. They both start the same. Maxi is enveloped in a dark aura, caused by the Soul Edge piece in his body reacting to the presence of the actual Soul Edge. He reaches out and grabs it, not knowing what it is and driven by the shard inside. However, upon touching it the sword does not allow him to let go (maybe it wants him for a host) and attacks him with more dark energies. Kilik arrives, calling Maxi's name. Maxi remembers him. Kilik then tells him to let go, he can destroy it in one shot. However, Maxi can't let go and tells Kilik to kill him to get to the evil sword. Throughout this bit, you can hammer down on the A button. If you don't hit it enough, you now get the bad ending. Kilik hits Soul Edge through Maxi and Maxi screams - he is killed. The scene switches to Kilik at the docks, who throws Soryuju into the sea. Hit the A button enough, though, and you'll get the good ending. Kilik hits Soul Edge through Maxi, but Maxi does not scream. He survives. The scene switches to Kilik sat at the docks. Maxi comes along and says they should go, offering Kilik his hand. Kilik agrees and stands up. He then gets Maxi in a headlock and messes up his hair! :) After a bit of laughter, Maxi finishes the ending with that infamous line, 'Aww man, you messed up my hair!' As revealed by SC4, this does not happen in the official storyline.

Soul Calibur 4

A dark ending in which Maxi gives into the darkness within himself. It starts with Maxi approaching Soul Edge, but before he grabs it Kilik is thrown onto the scene. Maxi acknowledges his friend's presence with a startled utterance of his name, and then turns to see Astaroth arriving. The giant has Xianghua, and throws her to the floor. Maxi chuckled without humour, before mentioning that he's always saving 'you guys.' He then grabs Soul Edge, and with his eyes glowing with red energy, charges at Astoroth. It's suggested that Soul Edge has possessed him at this point. This is unlikely to be the SC4 canon ending, though, which I am rather grateful for!
